NEW CDC Guidance on Exposures of Vaccinated Individuals

NEW CDC Guidance on Exposures of Vaccinated Individuals

  • As you probably know, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) has issued interim recommendations for the use of Pfizer-BioNTechModerna, and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccines for the prevention of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the United States.
  • As all team members have been doing, please continue promptly communicating with me on any actual or potential exposures at your practices. Now, part of the COCVID exposure analysis of our team members includes vaccination information.
  • On Feb 10, the CDC released an update to its recommended guidance on Vaccines & Immunizations. The guidance provides updated quarantine recommendations for fully vaccinated persons who “meet criteria will no longer be required to quarantine following an exposure to someone with COVID-19.”
  • As Feb 10, CDC has now changed one of these recommendations: vaccinated persons with an exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 are not required to quarantine, provided that  they meet all three of the below criteria:
  1. Are fully vaccinated (e.g. two vaccine doses and the 14-day wait period)
  2. Are within 3 months following receipt of the last dose in the series
  3. Have remained asymptomatic since the current COVID-19 exposure

This overarching guidance is applicable to HCPs and DHCPs. However, those DHCPs who do not meet all of the criteria above, are required to follow current quarantine guidance for HCPs with exposures someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 (as currently outlined in our Updated Protocol on Assessment of a DEPG Provider w potential exposure and Return to Work Analysis. This updated protocol will be made available on the Runner’s portal, so that the whole team may easily access this document.

We will continue following the CDC guidance as we move through our pandemic response and, I am here to answer any questions or concerns.
